Puttin' On The Ritz

The Spring 2012 Concert will feature the works of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and George and Ira Gershwin. There will be three performances (April 20, 21 and 22). The first rehearsal of the new season was on January 10th. We were pleased with the large turn out. New singers are always welcome without audition. Please join us at 7pm in Tunnell Hall of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church.

The Winter 2011 Concert was a return to the Choral Society's roots as the group was formed 26 years ago to perform Handel's Messiah. Performances were on December 10th and 11th at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes and Del Tech in Georgetown respectively. Both concerts were well-attended with large, appreciative audiences. The Southern Delaware Choral Society was created to bring quality choral music to southern Delaware and to provide singers with the opportunity to enhance their musical knowledge and skills. Two concerts are presented annually with two performances of each concert performed in a variety of Sussex County venues. John Ranney is our conductor with Rebecca McDaniel serving as rehearsal accompanist and Gail Launay as Executive Director.

Announcements                           

The SDCS received a $14K grant from the Crystal Trust to purchase new, lightweight risers. We also received a $1K grant from the Sussex County Council.

Beth Hochholzer reminds her SDCS friends of the Great Hall Concert at Bryn Mawr College on March 30th. The programs features well-known works of Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. Click Great Hall Concert for all the details.

The Ensemble

The Ensemble is a select group of the Choral Society's most talented singers. The Ensemble performs a variety of classical and contemporary music in a variety of smaller venues.

Recent performances have included the annual Christmas Concert at Sussex Correctional and Old Christ Church near Laurel.
